The city of Favignana

Favignana, the largest of the Egadi Islands, is defined by its distinctive "butterfly" shape and a pace of life that feels refreshingly slow and authentic compared to Sicily's busier tourist spots. The island offers a captivating mix of rugged coastlines, abandoned tuff quarries, and electric blue waters that rival the Caribbean. While it can get crowded during the peak of August, it retains a relaxed, somewhat wild atmosphere, making it the perfect destination for days spent sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying sunset aperitivos in the town piazza.
What to Do: The main activity is exploring the island's stunning coastline. Cala Rossa is the most iconic spot: an amphitheater of red rocks framing turquoise water, ideal for snorkeling (though reef shoes are recommended for the rocky access). If you prefer sand and an easier entry into the water, Cala Azzurra is the best choice, featuring shallow, crystalline depths. For the adventurous, Bue Marino offers a dramatic landscape set amidst old stone quarries with deep waters perfect for diving. Beyond the beaches, a visit to the ex-Stabilimento Florio (the historic Tuna Fishery) is essential to understand the island's heritage.
Get Around: Once you arrive, the absolute best way to navigate is by bicycle. Favignana is almost entirely flat, so cycling is an integral part of the experience;renting a bike (or an e-bike if you want to avoid sweating in the heat) gives you the freedom and autonomy to reach even the most hidden coves.
